First Days in Stockholm

It’s been five days since I arrived in Stockholm and I’m in a pretty good groove. The first days were a little exhausting with jet-lag and acclimation to the timezone. It was a flurry of meetings for both the housing option that we chose (in my case, the Studentboende), and for the courses that we will be taking at the school. In addition I had to get used to the public transportation in Stockholm which includes busses, trains, and trams. After these introduction activities we also had time to explore the city on our own, and we were really able to see what the city had to offer.

We found a local park about a 5 minute walk from DIS after one of our meetings and were impressed with how big and spacious the park was. There was a lot of playground equipment for little kids and sports fields as well. We were especially excited about a floor hockey rink that was available for public use with nets, sticks, and balls. A couple days later we found a soccer field located close to our housing and decided to get some action in.

Today we enjoyed touring Skansen which offered examples of traditional Swedish architecture, and animals such as reindeer, moose, wolverines, and bison.

Throughout, I’m enjoying what I’ve heard in the Swedish electronic dance music, and hope to experience more live music and art venues.

Some of the best moments I have had so far have included a group of our DIS apartment residents making group dinners such as salmon and tacos. Even though we may not be the best chefs in the world, we have fun with cooking and bond over our shared meals.
